Founded in 1901, the fraternity was originally known
Delta Tau Delta. In 1960, the Hanover chapter formally dissociated itself from the national organization because it would not allow the local Dartmouth chapter to allow minorities. The fraternity remained unnamed for 2 years, until brothers studying abroad in London, England proposed the name to honor a pub, the Bones Gate, that they frequented while there.
