What has gotten an extreme negative connotation in our society due to immense peer pressure and shame. Many people have a great fear of being different or standing out due to not wanting to be outcasted or isolated by his/her peers, which can be very harmful to a person’s health. Because of this, many people will give up their true potential because they don’t want to be viewed negatively by their peers. But, think about how boring it would be if every single person acted the exact same. Imagine all the great technological advancements we’d miss out on if innovators like Albert Einstein or Leonardo Da Vinci acted like everyone else at the time. We need people who are different in our society, people who offer a wide range of perceptions and experiences to share with the world. Peer pressure is a strong force that can either be your best friend or worst enemy, depending on who you surround yourself with. So try your best to find the people who support your inner strengths and will help push you to limits you never knew possible

Normality is impossible to achieve because there isn’t really a definitive example of pure normality. I mean some people do get called terms like “average joe” or “normie” but even that’s still very objective. I mean, not even every 2 “average joes” or “normies” are exactly the same and will have their differences, even if their very small. I’m not forcing anyone to be different or to rebel against the majority and I don’t shun anyone who fits the criteria of an “average joe”. If your inner desires and talents match what is appreciated in your community then keep on doing it. But, try not to let the idea of “normal” hinder you from doing what makes you happy, because when you look back when you’re older and are satisfied with what you did throughout your life, you’ll end up being much happier than you would’ve been if you succombed to a lifestyle that goes against your desires.

adj. Euphemism applying to persons who have a handicap, particularly a behavioral or mental inadequacy. Can be found in the phrase "differently abled," which means (let's face it), "disabled." To be "different" in the most widely-used sense of the term is a bad thing; it means you are retarded. Cf. special, short bus.

Kid: Bobby is incredibly stupid and clumsy, Mr. Mackey.

School Counselor: Son, let's not think those bad thoughts! Bobby is...different. He's just a little "differently abled" from you or I, m'kay? We can't use our language to take water out of his bucket.

Kid: You mean to say he is retarded and rides the short bus.

Counselor: Now, "retarded" is a word that they used back in Germany in the 1930's, but we have moved past that now haven't we...

Something everybody is scared to be, for they fear they will be rejected by society if they are. Those who are different are often labeled as: weird, crazy, deficient, stupid, a loser, or just a "reject".

Me: I despise people who just roll along with the population, instead of making their own path. People who can't develop critical thinking, therefore they go by the information that this close-minded society has sewn into them. People with a mediocre mentality, that does not allow them to look outside the box and to make their own opinions, thus shaping themselves into just another "brick on society's wall". A society that encourages order, discipline, and uniformity, instead of originality and spontaneity. A society made by them. Ironic isn't it?

Be different.
