A wordy and clumsy synonym for the word 'because'. Although this phrase is still grammatically correct, if you're unsure on what phrase to use, just use 'because', 'as', or 'since'. 'Due to the fact that' is redundant and unnecessary. This phrase should be avoided in formal writing.

With the wordy phrase: Due to the fact that I lost, I should practice more.
Without the wordy phrase: Because I lost, I should practice more.

With the wordy phrase: The shop closed down due to the fact that there weren't enough customers in there.
Without the wordy phrase: The shop closed down as there weren't enough customers in there.
