A classic guido move, newly popularized by MTV's show, The Jersey Shore. Typically involves a juiced up, overtanned, pit-stained arm pumping rapidly and enthusiastically in response to a variety of stimuli, including but not limited to: slammin' beats, hot sluts and other fist pumpers.

Spread widely in the U.S. in the 50's and 60's in the sport of Bowling.

If a bowler could see that he was about to get a strike (knocking all 10 pins down at once) - he would clench his fist as if holding a string that was attached to the pins. As the pins scattered he would quickly pull his fist back, acting as though his imaginary string pull caused the pins to fall.

Eventually, the Fist Pump became the gesture used on any (particularly sporting) instance of accomplishment.
