gaudy works, or works that are calculated to have popular appeal.

Technically, Kitsch is a term that has been used to categorize art that is considered an inferior copy of an existing style. The term "kitschy" is also used more loosely in referring to any art/thing/or person that is pretentious or in bad taste, and also commercially produced items that are considered
trite or
crass.
As a child, I considered
my mother's ornaments a bit kitschy, but when I took them to the
Antiques Road show I discovered that they were valuable.
