Much like an
estimate, testimating involves making
approximate calculations. The difference comes in practicality, in that a testimate can be
reviewed for accuracy before a true figure is established or revealed.
In this sense, it serves as a careful means of answering or prephrasing a question. It is something that is reviewed before the impending action or thought is undertaken.
In order to see if my new chair would fit through my
front door, I had to testimate how wide
the chair was, so I used my hands as a ruler to see if the chair would make it through. It made for a great testimation.
I want to conservatively testimate how many people will show up to
my rock concert this evening, so I will say that the room will be half empty.
