A metal scene started in the early 1980s in the San Francisco, CA Bay Area by thrash bands like Metallica, Testament, Exodus, Heathen,
Vio-Lence, and many others. Devoted cult following.
Also used to describe a particular style of thrash, most easily recognizable by sped-up middle sections and a
grounding in traditional
speed metal.
2001's Thrash of the Titans benefit spotlighted several
Bay Area Thrash bands reuniting to raise money for Testament singer
Chuck Billy.
