The
false nine is a footballer who starts in the position of a striker - who in 1-11 numbers traditionally wears the
number nine shirt. Rather than running forwards however, the false nine stays where he is or moves backwards; therefore playing a
midfield role and fooling the opposition into thinking he's an attacking player.
