"
Voted off the island" is coined from the popular Survivor TV reality series. Used similarly to "throw under the bus" but it implies that more people (co-workers, your boss even) were involved in getting you off the team or fired. Basically, you are sacrificed so that the others can keep their own jobs.
Sad truth is that "dog-eat-dog" survival exists in the office - especially in a
bad economy - so keep your eyes and ears peeled for whisperers and frienenemies to minimize your chance of being
voted off the island.
Mindy was voted off the island last week so now we're down to the
original three managers in the department.
