Was once the world's largest coporation but has been surpassed by Toyota. It has been the victim of stupid
labor unions like the
UAW that always threaten to strike if they don't get higher pay (even though the average starting salary for a worker just out of high school with
no skills is about $25 an hour), healthcare benefits (which they DO get), retirement benefits (which they also get) and
401K. The union has destroyed this once great corporation. GM has been responsible for many job losses in the auto industry, not just in Michigan, but all across the U.S.A. Don't blame the company. Blame the UAW Union. They demand unfair promises from the company that cannot be kept, therefore forcing the company and the auto industry to
outsource jobs to Mexico. GM is not so great anymore, thanks to the antiquated and worthless UAW.
General Motors is the largest
employer in Michigan, the 2nd largest
auto manufacturer and 3rd largest corporation in the world.
