Define Chapstick Lesbian Meaning

A lesbian who cares more about practicality than image. She really doesn't gravitate to the traditional images of "butch" or "femme" -- she does what she wants, and doesn't really care how she's seen.

A female homosexual whose gender identity is slightly to the femme side of neutral on the femme-butch continuum of gender presentation but whose appearance and preferences stop short of those of a "lipstick lesbian."

A lesbian that's close to the center, maybe slightly on the femme side, of the femme-butch spectrum. A lesbian on the butch side of center, might be more accurately considered a soft butch.

A very typical look is shoulder-length hair with a mens-fit tshirt, jeans, and Timbs/Doc Martens/Vans. They might wear no makeup at all or they might do some combination of foundation/mascara/concealer. They wouldn't usually do a full eyeshadow/eyeliner/falsh lashes/lipstick situation. Alternatively, chapsticks might lean towards athletic clothing like sports bras, basketball shorts, and muscle tanks. Formally, they might wear a suit jacket over a more feminine shirt or a women's fit button up rather than a suit or a dress. Other typical chapstick clothing items include looser-fit jean jackets, leather jackets, flannels, collared shirts, beanies, and baseball caps worn forwards or backwards. To see a variety of chapstick looks I would search up King Princess, Amy Ordman, Samira Wiley, Gaby Dunn (who is actually bi, not a lesbian), Ashley Perez (I believe she identifies as queer), Ava Palazzolo, Breanne Williamson, AmbersCloset, and Ally Hills on instagram (all of whom are really great queer creators/influencers/celebrities to check out if you happen to be looking). A lesbian who falls somewhere between a lipstick lesbian and a bull dyke lesbian. Sporty, somewhat to very feminine, not into a lot of makeup (hence the chapstick) but you can still tell it's a girl.

A lesbian that is masculine but not butch. She’ll be into sports and wear masculine clothes like flannel and graphic tees and a suit to formal things. She’ll probably have her hair long but either nothing is done to it or it’s tied up. She might wear makeup like concealer for reasons and maybe a bit more for formal occasions

Somewhere between a dike and a lipstick lesbian

A lesbian who is trying to be fem but can't quite get it together. She's maybe wearing mascara and a little blush, and definitely closed toed Keens, but she's not yet a lipstick lesbian.

A lesbian who leans toward the femme side of the butch or lipstick continuum (that dichotomy is totally arbitrary/not legit, but just for the sake of definition). Could defy “chapstick lesbian,” standards by wearing dresses more frequently or donning makeup more frequently. May have an equal number of pairs of pajama pants and lipsticks in her home. Might enjoy wearing makeup OR loungewear just as much. Not a lipstick lesbian because they do not NEED to wear a dress or makeup - still taking less than 20 minutes to get out the door.
