a band who's first song was released in 1981. depeche mode was part of the new wave scene, breaking into the synth pop genre (now known as "the kings of synth pop") and becoming its kings. Depeche Mode went into the 90's making their fans wiery with their release of Songs of Faith and Devotion, and a split up was almost eminent. 1997's ULTRA was the bands return to fame with the hits "It's No Good" and "Useless". when translated into english, depeche mode means "depressed mood." there is a band named after the phrase. listening to their monotone songs (if you can call them songs) will put anyone in a depressed mood. the band couldnt have picked a better name. a lack of ability to make decent music saddened them and lead them to make nothing but depressing songs.

They formed in 1981, as a Underground New Wave Group, they rose to fame when they released 2 singles in 1984(People Are People, Master And Servant) and were aquired by Sire Records shortly after. In 1991 they were voted most popular on MTV's Most Wanted Bands of the 80's. Depeche Mode started having trouble when Alan Wilder left in 1995, they released 5 singles from 1997 to 1998 then getting dropped by Sire Records. In 2001, they would be picked up by Reprise/Mute Records and would begin creating music again. It is rumored that Playing the Angel will be their second to last record.
