*The Hospitality State* that receives the most unjust flack for being racist, backwoods, sub-par, uneducated, redneck, illiterate, etc., when in fact it is beautiful, flourishing, friendly, and bubbling with culture and history -- much more than most people realize... Not to mention the talent that has sprung from Mississippi, especially for a small state (Sela Ward, Faith Hill, Oprah Winfrey, Elvis Presley, Brett Favre, Jimmy Buffett, Morgan Freeman, William Faulkner, Jim Henson,
Walter Payton, Robert Johnson, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Conway Twitty, Tammy
Wynette, Trent Lott, Jefferson Davis, James Earl Jones, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning,
Archie Manning, Jerry Rice, Tennessee Williams,
Eudora Welty, and LeeAnn Rimes, just to name a few...)
As a born & bred Mississippian who is very well-traveled all over the world (AND well-educated -- I can even do much more than just read -- gasp!), I would never choose live anywhere else!!!
Despite the
ignorance of people who go by the
stereotypes often attributed to
Mississippi, it often does not receive the credit it deserves.
