A word, whose meaningful definition(s)and correct applications are now obscured and have been raped to death mostly by the 25 and under crowd. It has been overused as "the" catch phrase used to describe a situation, person, event, movie, taking a shit,etc. The abuse and birth as a catchphrase has its origins among avid gamers and pretentious English majors.

There are too many "epic" examples to count, just go walk onto a college campus and listen closely.

It used to refer to a very specific type of poem, like The Iliad or The Odyssey. Then came the movie version of Lord of the Rings, arguably an epic itself. The movie's popularity introduced the word to the ignorant public. Soon hack video game "journalists" were using the term as a synonym for "fantasy," which did not help preserve the original definition. After years of corruption, the word is now an even more annoying synonym for "totally cool, dude!"

Something that is okay to say this year but if you say it next year will just get you looked at weird, like if you wear to go out in public with a fanny pack or wearing overalls with only one strap buckled. Used to approve of anything positively. Only momentarily, of course. Often piggybacked with "fail" as "epic fail". Another reason for other socities to despise the ineptitude of the human beings within ours.

Something that is epic can be extraordinarily awesome, or extraordinarily blunderous. Although the word's definition has been warped by the internet population, something that is epic is usually something that can be remembered for a long while. "Epic" is commonly misused because something that is supposedly "epic" is actually rather unexciting and not out of the ordinary.

This is a quagmire of epic proportions.
